As podcasting has become popular, more and more people are starting their own podcasts. At the moment of recording, there are more than two and a half million podcasts out there. Question is, How can you make your podcast stand out amongst the millions of podcasts there are? And the answer to that is to be unique.
If you want people to listen to you, and to choose your podcast over another podcast, then a reason to do that is to be unique, and show your personality. Give people a reason to listen, more importantly, a reason to stay. Take for example my latest episode, I interviewed a young podcaster, her name is Sophia Lorena. She was able to produce 140 episodes! She was young, had limiting beliefs, but she did it anyway. If you haven’t listened to the episode, I encourage you to listen, it will inspire you.
In this episode, I would like to share with you tips on how to be different and unique as a podcast host. Because in this season, I’d like to share inspirational and empowering content and also give you tips on how to make your podcast better.
Why Am I Doing This? Why Would People Even Listen To Me Or To My Podcast?
When you’re starting a podcast, you can’t avoid having these limiting beliefs in your mind. But do know that we’ve all been there at some point and it will pass. And why would people listen to you? Because you’re awesome and you have a message to share. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have a podcast. And it’s so important to get that message across.
How Do You Do It?
Show your personality in your podcast. I think that will make or break your podcast. And as a starting podcast, this might be difficult because there’s already so much going on but don’t feel bad if you work on this as you go, because it takes time and experience to evolve and be better at what you do.
When I listen to my first podcast episode I can’t help but cringe. I think it’s not a good episode but that’s what taught me to aim to be better. More than a year later, I created so much content and I just improved as I went.
Grow Your Audience
If you have been podcasting for a while and you’re ready to level up, grow your audience. Make more of a community from your audience. That is a perfect start to take and a good thing to focus on. So that’s to show your personality because that way people can really build a connection with you as a podcast host. This is also very important when you want to monetize your podcast. To be able to sell anything, maybe through affiliate links, a sponsorship, or someone else’s product that you want to sell, in order for people to buy anything, people need to trust you. And for people to trust you, they need to feel like they know you.
Show Your Personality & Be Comfortable With It
Showing your personality doesn’t have to be huge. For me, I just really try to be myself. I throw jokes sometimes and just try to be comfortable when recording. I usually have tea or coffee, or light a nice candle. Sometimes I will do breathing exercises before I start recording. These small rituals relax me and make me comfortable before I record. That way, you can truly relay your message and your listeners will feel that.
Your first episode will be a little bit scary, and maybe not as comfortable. That’s totally understandable. Don’t worry, you’ll grow into this. Your episode number 100 will probably sound completely different and much better from episode number one.
Tip! If you want to show your personality, use a catchphrase, something that you can call your audience. For me, I always greet my audience with ‘hey, podcastbabes!’. It creates a recall with your listeners. Your voice and the words that you use on your podcast are all part of your brand.
Don’t Forget To Have Fun!
Podcasting is fun, so don’t forget that. It could be difficult in the beginning, but remember not to take it too seriously. Be yourself, that way people can really connect with you and your message. Your listeners will definitely hear that from your voice.
