There are lots of podcast growth strategies that you can use for your podcast, but an important question that often gets skipped is: do they work for long-term growth?
In today’s episode, you’ll find out what I’ll consider the most effective long-term podcast growth strategy, and how to use it effectively.
If you’re looking for a podcast growth strategy that will get you new listeners forever, I recommend you listen to this episode.
Why Do You Need A Long-Term Growth Strategy For Your Podcast?
A long-term growth strategy just keeps working for you. This is convenient because you don’t have to keep showing up over and over again as you do on social media. With focused effort, you can work on a long-term strategy just once. It’ll keep working for you continuously and without your constant daily attention.
If social media isn’t an option for a long-term growth strategy for your podcast, what is the most effective way to grow your audience in the long run? For me, the best and most effective strategy is the use of search engine optimization or SEO.
The Most Effective Podcast Growth Strategy
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It means that you optimize your content for google, or any search engine so that your content can be found. Why is this the most effective, long-term podcast growth strategy?
This is such a good growth strategy because it takes you a few minutes every time you release content. So let’s say every week you release content. Okay. Well, then it takes maybe even less to optimize everything for the keywords that you want to rank for on Google.
Tips On Using SEO In Podcasting
SEO is so important because it makes your website more visible, and that means more traffic and more opportunities to convert prospects into customers. For podcasting, that means more people with a wider variety of interests and needs can find you and can be converted into your actual audience. And can be converted into your actual audience.
Here are some tips on how to use SEO as a strategy for your podcast growth.
If you want to rank on Google and if you want to focus on SEO, have your own podcast website. Get a URL or a domain name with keywords in it and ensure you have a website.
If you don’t have a podcast website yet, you could consider using a tool called PodPage. For digital nomad stories, I use “Podpage.” This tool is fantastic. It basically uses your RSS feed to upload every episode automatically to the website. Go to the support page and then add the long-form show notes. Adding more content to these pages is also an excellent way to rank.
Regularly post content, so this is also why I recommend being extremely consistent and releasing episodes of your podcast.
Why SEO For Long-term Podcast Growth
It might take a while before you start showing up on Google and before people will start finding your content, so don’t expect to create your website or optimize for keywords and then see a huge peak in downloads two weeks later.
It takes some time but waiting is really worthwhile after you see the result in the long term.
Repurpose your content, and make sure that you’re smart about how you use your content. You can use it to create a blog post, a social media post, or a newsletter. These are important when you want long-term growth with SEO.
SEO is a very effective growth strategy for podcasters. You don’t have to keep showing up over and over again, like on social media, but you just do this once and it keeps working without you.
