You might be wondering how to monetize your podcast, or how you can reach out to a wider audience. Either way, marketing is the key to achieve both. As podcasters, it is important for us to learn how to market our podcast.
In this episode, I would like to share with you three tips to market your podcast. Tips that can increase your downloads, increase your revenue, and take you to new audiences. In addition, this will also help you build and establish brand awareness.
1. Long Term Strategy Vs. Short Term Strategy
Some podcasters market their podcast using solely short term strategy. They post their content on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook. However, the problem with this strategy is it is short term focused. Posts don’t stay long, after 24 hours your post is gone and you have to keep on posting everyday to make your presence known. This is of course time consuming and more difficult to commit to doing. Fortunately, there’s other strategies you can practice.
1.2 SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
SEO is a long term marketing strategy. It means creating content and putting keywords in for Google to remember it. The goal is if someone searches for a specific keyword within your content, they’ll be able to find your post. Whether this post was recent or even from a few years ago.
1.3 Pinterest for podcasters
Pinterest works the same as Google. When a pinterest user searches keywords within your content, your post will pop up. And the longer you post content, Pinterest picks this up and your post becomes more searchable. However, it takes a while to set this up. You have to consistently post content with the right keywords. In about 3-6 months you will see an increase of people finding your content.
Pinterest and SEO answers peoples’ questions. If they find your content useful, they turn into leads and become aware of you. They then can become a loyal audience of your podcast.
2. Consistency In Your Marketing
Be consistent in putting your content out there. Regularly post on social media and consistently put in the right keywords in every single episode for SEO purposes. It also means making your branding look the same. Be consistent with your colors, logos, and everything that identifies you as a brand. You also need to integrate your tone of voice in all communication channels. That way, you get to unite everything together and your brand becomes consistently marketed. People will identify you and not confuse you with other podcasts or brands.
3. Collaborations
Collaborating with other podcasters is another way to market your own podcast. There are different ways to collaborate but a preference of mine is guesting on each other’s podcast. Other ways are promoting snippets, mentioning them in your email newsletter, or on social media. You can also collaborate with bloggers, people on Instagram or Clubhouse. These are ways to promote your podcast, expand your network, build relationships, and be in front of new audiences.
Create, Market, Repeat!
There you have it! These are the three tips for marketing your podcast that you need to remember.
Aim for your content to be searchable, be consistent in marketing your podcast, and collaborate to expand your network and audience.
To stay in the game, create, market, and repeat! Be consistent and do it all over again.
