I’ve got a special treat for you today. In the past few months, I’ve been learning a lot about podcast sponsorships. But lately, I’ve also been consuming a lot of content about partnering with brands through influencer marketing.
Now you might be wondering, what does a podcast have to do with content creators and influencers?
Podcasting is a creative form of content. It really depends on what you want to do with your podcast, but the ways in which influencers and content creators build their audiences and promote their creations relate to how you can build partnerships of your own.
Today, I’m going to share some of the things podcasters can learn from content creators, particularly, how to land brand partnerships, what to look for, and how to improve your negotiation skills to land more profitable brand partnerships.
On a quick note, If you’re interested in how to prepare your podcast for future brand sponsorships, check out episode 95 where I covered that topic.
Your Podcast Is a Valuable Asset to Your Business
There are so many ways you can generate revenue from a podcast. Content creators have different revenue streams from Instagram and other platforms. They work with brands and sell their own products, like online courses, and it’s something that I don’t see many podcasters do.
Your podcast is valuable in many ways. Consider what else you can do with it, including the potential to bring in revenue. And when it comes to monetizing your podcast, I would recommend always starting with one validation strategy. For example, if you want to sell your own products or services, then that is a great first step. But once you do that, why not partner with a brand that complements that content?
As podcasters, it’s really important to know what our content is worth to our audience and our potential partnership. What makes podcasting really cool over a lot of other content is that even in the far future, it can attract news listeners who find them on different platforms and they’ll then find your content. It’s always good to keep in mind that your podcast is valuable for sponsorship.
Make Sure That Your Packages and Pricing Reflect Your Stats
Take a good look at your podcast stats. If there is stable growth, such that you’re getting more listens every month, then you ask for more money when talking to a potential partner.
This is very important to know because even if you don’t have gigantic download numbers right now, you might have them in the future, and you can point out your ever-increasing popularity to persuade sponsors to pay more money.
Be Smart About Producing Your Podcast
Use your podcast as a basis for future content repurposing to the max.
You might have heard my interview with Krystal Proffitt about repurposing content. Krystal shared how she uses her podcast to also create engaging and fun YouTube videos. She’s got some great tips on this, so it’s worth going back to listen if you haven’t already.
Actively Pitch Your Podcast
Pitching your podcast to gain brand sponsorships is a hugely valuable opportunity. But it’s one that many podcasters don’t take advantage of. Maybe they don’t feel like it’s worth the effort or they don’t know how to, which I totally understand. It’s a tough skill to learn, but it can pay off big time. You won’t see any results right away but if you take action and keep putting yourself out there, it will happen.
If you want to get sponsorships, go get them. Take action and start pitching your podcast to brands within your niche!
Takeaway
I hope you enjoyed these tips and took something away from this episode.
The key is to make sure you know exactly what you do when producing content. Streamline your workflow and get your content out there. Figure out how much time it takes to work on your podcast and if you need to outsource some of these tasks. Make sure you’re efficient in producing your podcast. Once you’ve done that, then it’s time to find ways to take your podcast to the next level.
Don’t get stuck in audience growth mode forever. You don’t need 1,000 listens to sell your products and services. If you want to partner with someone, go get it! Pitch, talk to people, and negotiate!
